Baked Goat's

Went to Ripple in Sherwood with some friend and saw ‘Baked Goat’s’ on the receipt. Hilarious!

Harry Wintle – A book on Van Gogh

‘Van Gogh’ by Harry Wintle aged 6.

Van Gogh is an artist. Van Gogh paints pictures.

He cut his ears.

It is Van Gogh

It is one of Van Gogh’s paintings.

One of my work colleagues Andrea, told me about her son Harry’s new found interest in Van Gogh. It made me so happy! He had a lesson about Van at school and on the same day would not go to bed until he had made a book about him. I think you’ll agree it’s a brilliant portrayal.

Pigeon friends

Whilst at work I noticed the pigeons dancing in the shadow cast by the window.

Shaving with Stanley

I had a very slow start to my Sunday. I went to the studio in hunt for string for a new idea. Once we’d opened the door it swelled up and became too big for the frame. We tried slamming it but no such luck. I phoned my Dad, Steve who came up with some cracking ideas but we had none of the necessary objects to help; hair dryer, extension cable, rope or appropriately sized piece of wood. I ended up having to use what we had, shaving the door with the aid of a Stanley knife. A laborious task but after some time it closed and we could go home to try out my new string idea!

I was having a cup of Earl grey with Phil and the topic of the Shroud of Turin came up. Phil was telling me about all the conspiracy, especially with particular reference to the ‘Analysis of optical perspective‘. This is the idea that the face would be distorted if the Shroud had been a result of the cloths contact with the face, because of the contours. This made me think about how my face would be represented if measured by string. I have had a first attempt today and you can see that the nose is particularly affected by the distortion.

Concrete memorial chair

On Kay’s travels she found this concrete chair sculpture on an ocean path. It had been put there as a memorial to someone. I like the fact that someone decided to do something different from the usual bench idea. Looks like when you sit on it you get an amazing view!

Furniture spotting

Finding discarded furniture has even crept into me watching TV. Whilst I was watching Material Girl on iPlayer I noticed what looks like some really interesting discarded sofa’s in the back ground.

Surealist chair

My Mum, Ali sent me this image the other day. She had taken the photo of the chair and then used an iPhone application to add cats to it. It really makes me smile. I think it’s the combination of two of my favourite things. Thanks Mum.

Dee Dee

I have just realised after some serious sorting that Dee Dee, my Grandad was without evening knowing it, a huge inspiration to me. I have just found a cardboard tube from 5th January 2006 which I have kept. It has been with me throughout at least 4 house moves.

Written on an orange piece of paper it says:

‘Rebecca,

Hope that you can make use of some of these. They seem too good to put out in the re-cycling bin!!!

Lots of love from Dee Dee and Grandma’

That has been my ethos to this day. I have recently been collecting cardboard tubes without a lot of reason, apart from I like them. When I found the first edition again, I was so happy and it all seemed to make more sense.

I used to love receiving packages or letters from Dee Dee as they were so meticulously created. There would be no room for error; always return to sender information. He also had millions of screws, nails and the like in his garage and kept them all in jars which were labelled. Somehow he had made something not initially interesting to me, fascinating by the order and sheer variety. By categorising and collecting different types, it somehow made them seem worth more like they were precious.

Filled in

I go past this wall everyday on the way to and from work. I think it’s beautiful. I wonder why it has been filled in and what it’s function is now.
